From ROME CITY to TIVOLI to ROME CITY
Do you want to discover the secrets around Rome? Have a look at this tour!
Villa d’Este, known as UNESCO world heritage site since 2001, is a spectacular representation of the Italian garden. It is a mix of caves and fountains embellished by water games, hydraulic music, and water lilies.
The building of this villa is due to Cardinal Ippolito d’Este. After his disappointment because of a failure to the pontifical election as the governor of the city of Tivoli, he started to make the wish of having a garden situated just in the Gaudente Valley (a particular location shaped as hillside). The building project was launched only in 1500 thanks to Pirro Ligorio, a painter-archaeologist-architect, and then realized by the court architect, Alberto Galvani. When Cardinal Ippolito d’Este died in 1572, his villa was almost finished. From 1811 until 1886 it was happily inhabited by Cardinal Gustav Adolf von Hohenlohe. During the first 30 years of the 20th century Villa d’Este was purchased by the Italian State and opened to the public.

If you want to take a trip through history, that’s the right place!
This is an archeologic ancient area which is considered as UNESCO world heritage site since 1999. It was built during the following twenty years: from 118 B.C. to 138 B.C. under Emperor Adriano’s direction. For what concerns the location, Villa Adriana had the chance to be sat up in a green territory full of water (100 hectares). Anciently, this area included other villas, beautiful gardens, and spa all reachable through an underground, vehicular as well as pedestrian path.
The wealth of this historic place can be surely found in its wonderful forms and sculpted decorations that had been modified during Renaissance. Today you have the possibility to visit the unique 40 hectares which have survived the passage of time.
